It’s time, once again, for my monthly wrap up. You know the drill here folks. We talk about what we’ve read, what we’ve hauled, how hard we fell on our faces when we failed our monthly TBR…you catch the drift. Let’s dive in.

Mid Year Goals Check In | 2021
I, like many people, set myself some reading goals at the beginning of 2021. For me it was actually the first time I had done so. I’m very much a mood reader and in previous years had just let the reading mood take me wherever it so wished. Something I had noticed the last couple of years, however, was that I just was a little bit dissatisfied with my reading. It wasn’t bringing me the same joy and satisfaction that I longed for. So, in an attempt to change that, I decided to set some reading goals so I would pick out things outside of my normal comfort zone.
What better time to check in on those goals than here, mid way through the year? Let’s take a look back at the goals I set for myself back in January and see if I’m actually accomplishing them and if they are helping.

It is time once again for that most sacred of book blogging activities, the Mid Year Freak Out Tag. Now, I’ve done this every year since I started Literary Weaponry and I have to admit my answers each year are nothing short of laughable. I just looked back on the last few years and not only does my post style change but apparently my tastes see-saw widely as well. What a joy. I look forward to looking back on this post in years to come and wonder what I thought I was thinking.
Anyway…here is my 2021 mid year tag. There have been some real highs and lowest lows but overall it has been a great year.

Previously here at Literary Weaponry I posted the written edition of my June TBR, which you can view here if you’d like. But, some of you know that I have also dipped my toe, mostly unsuccessfully, into book tube as well. So, for June, I decided to film a TBR as well!

I’ve never been one to make a formal TBR. I am very much a mood reader and have always found the concept of a set TBR to be a constraining thing. Something to keep me squashed within a preconceived notion that I am required to follow along with like a prison in chains. To say the least, I’m not particularly fond them.
However…
I am behind on my review copies to an alarming degree. Well, to me it is alarming. I have one that I should have completed and reviewed by next Tuesday and another three in July. I typically read my review copies months in advance and have the reviews written and schedule, ready to go, so that I don’t get into a hopped up sense on panic with due dates. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be happening this year so for the next two months I’m going to try setting myself a more strict TBR in hopes of getting these books reviews as I have promised I would do.

Ah yes, May. The month that almost felt like it wasn’t a repeat of March 2020. Maybe we will be living in March 2020 the rest of our lives, who knows, but May almost felt different. Almost.
Despite the fact that I was very busy in May I managed to get a lot read. This past month was incredibly busy at work, I had a flurry of doctor’s appointments, my second COVID shot that knocked me down and out, my child’s last day of school, working towards selling a house…I’m tired, ya’ll. Because of all the happened this month I assumed my “books read” for the month would be 3 or 4 at the most but here we are. Let’s take a look back at May here at Literary Weaponry.

Hello all! In case you don’t know, OwlCrate is a monthly bookish subscription box featuring a ya fantasy/fantasy adjacent book and items around a theme. I have been receiving these monthly boxes for nearly three years now and I love them!
When I received my May box I expected it to be good but I think it could just my favorite bookish box I’ve ever had the pleasure of opening. Want to see what got me excited? Check out my unboxing video!
Continue readingThree Random Picks | Books on my TBR
Sometimes I just sit and look at my shelves or the books sitting on my digital TBR and I feel like I’ve abandoned them, left them out in the cold, sent them to bed without dinner…you get my drift. There are times when I wonder if I will ever get around to reading them all. The honest answer is no, probably not, but I like to pretend.
In honor of all of those books sitting on my shelves I’ve decided that even if I don’t get to them anytime soon I at least want to give them some attention. A bit of a gentle, loving pet if you will. To do that I am going to be using a random number generator to pick three random books from my TBR to talk about with you all every week. At least, that is the plan. The plan may evolve and change as we go along but this is as good a jumping off point as any.
