The Fall Book Tag

fall-book-tag

As I sat here this chilly Saturday, sipping my pumpkin spice flavored coffee, I spotted this tag over at Bionic Book Worm (who created it) and at Thrice Read. Sure, I wasn’t tagged, but when does that ever stop me? There is a cool breeze blowing in my open windows and fuzzy socks on my feet. It may not actually be fall but it sure feels like it here. That makes it a perfect day to tackle The Fall Book Tag!

Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody  – I loved this book. It has a spooky magic circus theme which felt really different from most of the books that I read.

Golden Son by Pierce Brown – To say my jaw hit the floor at the end of this one would be an understatement. Holy moly! It has been one of my favorite reads of 2017. fall-tag-5

A Gathering of Shadows (Shades of Magic #2) by V.E. Schwab – Prince Rhy and Alucard. Do I really need to say anything more than that? Warm fuzzies all over the place for those two. fall-tag-6

147917

A Feast for Crows (A Song of Ice and Fire #4) by George R.R. Martin – How about a cover with read, orange, AND yellow? Huh? Pretty good, right? Those colors just shout fall leaves. fall-tag-3

thesongrising1

The Song Rising by Samantha Shannon – So much happens to our characters in this book. They are constantly getting in some kind of trouble and trying to conquer the bad guys. Can’t wait to see what kind of mayhem Paige gets into in the next book. fall-tag-4

Iron Gold (Iron Gold #1) by Pierce Brown – I absolutely cannot wait to read more of the world Brown created in his Red Rising series. The details, the character development, everything was just amazing.

I tag anyone who wants to do this tag! It was pretty fun and I enjoyed hunting down the right books for each answer. If you do it, put your link in the comments. I would love to see your answers!

Book Spotlight – A Treacherous Curse by Deanna Raybourn (Upcoming Release)

BOOKSPOTLIGHT

Each week in my Book Spotlight piece I will be bringing you an upcoming release. These books are ones I am excited about whether they be from a new or an established author. This week we have an upcoming release from one of my favorites!

ATreacherousCurse

Title: A Treacherous Curse (Veronica Speedwell #3) by Deanna Raybourn

Expected publication: January 16th, 2018

Publisher: Berkley

London, 1888. As colorful and unfettered as the butterflies she collects, Victorian adventuress Veronica Speedwell can’t resist the allure of an exotic mystery—particularly one involving her enigmatic colleague, Stoker. His former expedition partner has vanished from an archaeological dig with a priceless diadem unearthed from the newly discovered tomb of an Egyptian princess. This disappearance is just the latest in a string of unfortunate events that have plagued the controversial expedition, and rumors abound that the curse of the vengeful princess has been unleashed as the shadowy figure of Anubis himself stalks the streets of London.

But the perils of an ancient curse are not the only challenges Veronica must face as sordid details and malevolent enemies emerge from Stoker’s past. Caught in a tangle of conspiracies and threats—and thrust into the public eye by an enterprising new foe—Veronica must separate facts from fantasy to unravel a web of duplicity that threatens to cost Stoker everything.

COVER

I absolutely adore the cover for this book. It is a color we don’t see very often, first of all. Have you noticed that most covers seem to be black, white, or red? I love that this one took a jump off of that trend with this beautiful gold. There are also some hieroglyphics worked into the background which is a lovely touch.

CONCEPT

I have made it no secret that I am completely in love with Raybourn’s books. Just here on Literary Weaponry I have reviewed five of them! Now, one of my favorite authors is incorporating one of my favorite topics: Ancient Egypt. To say I am over the moon would be an understatement. In the previous two books in this series, A Curious Beginning and A Perilous Undertaking, we have been given hints and peaks at Stoker’s past but nothing in much detail. From the sounds of things Raybourn will be giving us a great deal more information about him. Hopefully it will also include more scenes with Stoker’s oldest brother who is easily one of my favorite secondary characters in any series. Period. I am absolutely itching to pre-order this one!

Throwback Thursday – Freedom’s Landing by Anne McCaffrey

throwbackthursday

Renee began Throwback Thursday at Its Book Talk as a way to share some of her old favorites as well as sharing books that she wants to read that were published over a year ago. Books that were published over a year ago are almost always easier to find at libraries or at a discounted sale price. As I have been sifting through my TBR list and purging those books that no longer hold my interest, I came across several from years past that I’d love to share with you! Continue reading

Top Ten Tuesday – Books That Were A Chore To Read

e34e0-toptentuesday

Hello and welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! This week’s topic is Ten Books I Struggled to Get Into But Ended Up Loving or Ten Books That Were A Chore To Get Through or Ten Books I’ve Most Recently Put Down (the theme is…books you had a hard time with…tweak it how ever you need) which is, of course, brought to us by The Broke and the Bookish. We all have those books that we open up, expecting to enjoy, and then they turn into a chore to read. Some of them we get through, some of them we don’t. Today I’ll give you the books that became a chore for me to read, whether I finished them or not.

September Reading Releases!

SEPTRELEASE

September is here and that cooler, crisp, refreshing air is just the thing I needed to recharge my batteries. I’m sitting here with my windows open, listening to the breeze, and watching the squirrels scamper around looking for nuts to hide away for winter. I think I’m going to have to make a pumpkin spice latte run here soon. Another thing amazing about this fall are the upcoming book releases! There are some fantastic book releases for September that I would love to share with you. (All release dates noted are for the US and title links lead to their Goodreads page)

Down the TBR Hole #8

Down the TBR Hole is a meme that was started by Lia @ Lost in a Story. Here is how it works:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if youre feeling adventurous) books. Of course if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

This is my 8th trip down the hole. Lets see what is waiting at the bottom of it today! All book descriptions in italics are taken from Goodreads.
