Throwback Thursday – The Hanged Man (Her Majesty’s Psychic Service #1) by P.N. Elrod

throwbackthursday

Renee began Throwback Thursday at Its Book Talk as a way to share some of her old favorites as well as sharing books that she wants to read that were published over a year ago. Books that were published over a year ago are almost always easier to find at libraries or at a discounted sale price. As I have been sifting through my TBR list and purging those books that no longer hold my interest, I came across several from years past that I’d love to share with you! Continue reading

Cover Reveal – Ace of Shades (The Shadow Game #1) by Amanda Foody

COVERREVEALaceofshades

There is nothing quite like an eye catching book cover, is there? It can pull you in and beg for your purchase without you even knowing anything about the book. Author Amanda Foody announced her next book, Ace of Shades, a few months ago. Since I loved her first novel (cover and all), Daughter of the Burning City, I was excited to see what Ace of Shades would bring.

Yesterday was the big cover reveal for Shades and I have to say that I am a little disappointed. I like the blood red almost wallpaper background and the imposing shadow of a sinister city but the card tower is very lackluster. It just doesn’t have the pizzazz I was hoping for. Take a look at the upcoming novel… Continue reading

Book Spotlight – The Lost Plot (The Invisible Library #4) by Genevieve Cogman

BOOKSPOTLIGHThalloween

Each week in my Book Spotlight piece I will be bringing you an upcoming release. These books are ones I am excited about whether they be from a new or an established author. This week we have an upcoming release from an author I have read two books from in the past. The first book in this series titled The Invisible Library got a solid 5 stars from me while the second book, The Masked Citywasn’t quite as good but was still entertaining.

Down the TBR Hole # 11

DOWNTHETBRHOLE

Welcome to another Down the TBR Hole! The last couple times I’ve done this I managed to purge 3/5 books each time. Hopefully I am able to continue the trend as I would very much like to get my TBR pile down to a more manageable number.

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if youre feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

Roar (Stormheart #1) by Cora Carmack

book review

29939048

“You are lightning made flesh. Colder than falling snow. Unstoppable as the desert sands riding the wind. You are Stormling, Aurora Pavan. Believe it.”

I bought Roar back in June when it was first released and it has been sitting on my shelf ever since. The cover is lovely and it was nice to pick it up, look at it, and put it back down from time to time. I even opened it once and made it through the first chapter before I put it back down again. Why was I hesitant about reading it? The book has been billed as a fantasy romance and, well, romance just isn’t up my alley. Finally, last week I was feeling blue and thought a little romance might be just the pick me up I needed so I reached for this book and settled in on the couch with a steaming cup of tea. September Wrap Up

SeptemberWrapUp

We have reached the end of summer and tumbled head first into fall. Cool, crisp mornings, leaves crunching underfoot, and the promise of Halloween just around the corner. As a child I was really never that into fall. It signified the start of a new school year and all of the homework that came with it. As an adult, fall is my jam. I get to turn off the air conditioner, open the windows, and save on the electric bill? Don’t mind if I do! Before I tumble headlong into a ramble about Jack Skellington I’ll cut myself off. So, here for your perusal, is my September Wrap Up! Continue reading

Rage (Stormheart #2) by Cora Carmack

Release day June 12th 2018
Published by Tor Teen

All Aurora Pavan ever wanted was a choice, to control her own life. Now she’s got more choices than she can handle.

Princess or adventurer.

Duty or freedom.

Her Kingdom or the Stormhunter she loves.

If she knows anything, it’s that choices have consequences— like the storm now tangled with her heart, the alarming disappearance of her mother and friend, and the fall of her kingdom to the Locke family. To set things right, she joins a growing revolution on the streets of Pavan. She puts her knowledge of the palace to use to aid the rebellion, but the Lockes aren’t the only sinister thing plaguing Pavan. The Rage season is at it’s peak and not a day passes without the skies raining down destruction. But these storms seem… different than any she’s ever encountered. They churn with a darkness that frightens her, and attack with a will like she’s never seen. This feels like more than Rage. It feels like war. (description taken from http://www.coracarmack.com)
