In 2024, I had begun to find my joy in reading and getting lost in a lost in another world, again. The last time I had been anything resembling active here on Literary Weaponry was the spring of 2022. If I am being honest with myself, the last time it had brought me joy was a considerable time before that. My life had spiraled into a dark place that I didn’t think there was an escape from. It took a long time to pull myself out and I truly have my wonderful therapist to thank.

Last 3 Books | Added to my TBR
As a person who loves to talk about books, I spend I great deal of time discussing what I’m reading in the moment, what I just finished, or what I plan on picking up next. Rarely do I just have a chat about recent books that simply caught my eye.
Continue readingReflection | Most Anticipated Releases of First Quarter 2022
Something I have found I enjoy doing is looking back on past TBRs and anticipated lists and taking mental stock of what I thought of those books. Was I right in choosing them? Why did I or did I not enjoy about them? Did I actually read them at all?
I’ve been doing this for myself for a while now and thought I’d share it with you as well! So, today, we are going to look back at my most anticipated list from the first quarter of 2022 and see, first, if I read the books and, secondly, if I enjoyed them.

So, that’s what we are going to do here. Let’s have a chat about the last couple books that I added to my general (not owned) TBR because they caught my attention for one reason or another. Pretty simple, right?

So many books, so little time!
We’ve all done it. An upcoming release catches our attention with all the buzz hopping around about it and we add it to our TBR list. There, it languishes for months, sometimes even years, until you’ve all but forgotten about it. It finally gets relocated to your TBR graveyard, never to be heard from again.
Maybe that is a little dramatic but you get my point. These are some of the books that I have nudged into that TBR graveyard recently.
Continue readingPast Favorites | Do I Still Love Them?
It is only natural that you as a person will like some things more than others. Maybe you like couscous but not rice. Bright pink but not pastel pink. Burritos but not tacos (in which case you are wrong but I will accept your wrongness with grace). You get my point. However, today I tried an old favorite (marinated mushrooms) for the first time in years and I just didn’t like them anymore. Big sad.
The same is true with books. Even if you read books with similar themes there will be some stories you like more than others. Along that vein, I got to wondering if the books I loved in the past would still be favorites for me today.

Something I’ve been looking at lately is the books on my TBR. I started doing a massive TBR purge at the beginning of 2022 because, honestly, enough time had passed since I had put many of the books on my Goodreads TBR that my interest in them had wained and it was time to free up some space. Yes, I know, there isn’t a limit to how many books you had add to your to-read shelf on Goodreads but if that number gets too big it makes me have a little internal panic. Easier on my brain to just tidy up.

If you’ve followed me for a while here at Literary Weaponry, you would know that I am absolutely not much of a TBR person. I am a mood reader extraordinaire! However (there is always a however), being a mood reader means that sometimes the books I am most anticipating reading sit languishing on my shelf for months, or sometimes even years.
Continue readingSeries I Need to Finish
Recently I was watching a booktube video from Justine @ I Should Read That and she mentioned that she had spent December trying to clear up her unfinished series. You know what I mean, those series that you started to read and just haven’t gotten around to finishing even though you really intend to.
So, I got in my head that I need to do a series cleanup. In 2022, I want to complete reading the series I have sitting unfinished on my shelves. Or, as a couple on this list aren’t part of a completed series, I want to read the remaining books that are already published.
Happily, as I was compiling this list, it turns out I don’t have quite as many unfinished series as I thought I did so I feel like it is absolutely reasonable to tidy this all up by the end of 2022.
All title links go to the book’s Goodreads page.
